Goodbyes are hard to get right. Sometimes they are too long and dramatic and you feel like you are miming emotions you once felt honestly. Sometimes they are too short and you feel as though the person has left you mid sentence. But it’s impossible to avoid goodbyes. They are as necessary as tying your shoe laces. If you don’t, the laces keep tripping you, following until they force you to stop. I wish they wouldn’t. I don’t like the experience, I don’t even like the word. To say goodbye and mean it, you must leave behind something or someone you love. That shouldn’t feel good, and if it does, you did the first part wrong.
